Investing in Local Talent: Dr Ket Returns to LFHC after Pediatric Residency

LFHC proudly welcomes Dr. Ketthaphone "Ket" Douangdala back to our team following her successful completion of a three-year pediatric residency program in Vientiane. Her return marks not only a personal achievement but also reflects the ongoing development of medical expertise within Laos.
Dr. Ket first joined LFHC in 2016 as a fresh medical school graduate. As the first doctor in her family, pursuing medicine required significant sacrifice from both her and her family. What drove her was a simple but powerful motivation: "I've always wanted to help others," she says. Inspired by a doctor friend, she knew early on that she wanted to dedicate her career to treating children. Her exceptional work ethic at LFHC earned her a spot in the hospital's residency program, where she developed specialized skills in general pediatrics, neonatology, hematology-oncology, and nephrology. The residency proved challenging, with long shifts, on-call duties, and continuous studying. Despite these demands, Dr. Ket persevered.
Now back at LFHC as a certified pediatric resident, Dr. Ket can confidently work across all departments. She notes significant improvements in patient care and organization since she left. Beyond applying her enhanced skills, she takes particular joy in teaching junior team members and sharing her knowledge.
Looking ahead, Dr. Ket hopes to specialize further in emergency and ICU care. Her philosophy remains consistent with her journey: "Hard work makes a difference," she reflects. "Hard work is worth it because you make a difference."
Dr. Ket’s return to LFHC as pediactric doctor is a true asset to the hospital. She is one of many dedicated Lao medical professionals who have received specialist training through LFHC and come back to share her knowledge and expertise to better improve the care at the hospital. This reflects Friends Without A Border’s long-term vision for LFHC, to be a sustainable healthcare provider led by skilled local staff, strengthened through ongoing capacity building.
