Capacity Building and Health Education Program (CBHEP) |
Affected by poor water quality, diet and sanitation and having limited access to health care and education, many children are afflicted by preventable diseases such as diarrhea and acute respiratory infections. Friends realized that long-term improvements in child health could not be achieved through hospital-based work alone.
A community-based approach is essential. In May 2001, Friends established the Capacity Building and Health Education Program (CBHEP).
CBHEP works directly in Cambodian communities to strengthen the capacity and improve the quality of community health services. By providing training and support to rural Health Centers, CBHEP improves the quality of a sick child’s most immediate resource. To reduce the incidence of preventative disease CBHEP works directly with Cambodian communities teaching about immunization, nutrition, prenatal health, breastfeeding, birth spacing, HIV/AIDS and tropical disease.
