Ground Breaking Ceremony Speech by H.E. Chhea Thang
Cambodian Minister of Health

Today, I am very honored to participate in the Ground Breaking Ceremony for the Angkor Hospital For Children that will be constructed in the very near future with funds from the organization, Friends Without A Border, whose president Mr. Kenro Izu is here with us today...

The construction of this hospital responds to the needs of the health system of Cambodia which, under the leadership of the Royal Government of Cambodia, is being reformed and developed to improve the quality of health care provided to the people of Cambodia. The provision of health services by Friends Without A Border will supplement the health care services provided by the Ministry of Health. It will alleviate our national budget expenditure on materials, equipment and medicine purchases, and provide training to Cambodian health staff.

Furthermore, if we have more health services, our people will have the opportunity to access the health services easily, as we will have both public and private hospitals. When this hospital provides a high standard of medical care and a regular health education program, the mortality and morbidity rates of the children in Siemreap will progressively decrease. This is a great benefit for the people and the children of Siemreap. This will be the first province in Cambodia to have a private children's hospital...

Once again, on behalf of the Ministry of Health officials in Siemreap, I would like to express my warm thanks to the humanitarian gesture of Friends Without A Border and all its members for having contributed generously to construct this hospital to improve the health of the children of Siemreap.
