Medical Education Center Since it’s inception, Angkor Hospital for Children has worked diligently to increase the number of properly trained healthcare workers in Cambodia. In 2003 AHC was recognized by WHO as the only pediatric medical training facility in Northern Cambodia. On February 22nd, 2004 a tremendous milestone was achieved with the opening of the Medical Education Center. The Medical Education Center which includes a research center, computer labs, classrooms and a large lecture hall to accommodate all of our training programs, medical, nursing and administrative. At the end of the Khmer Rouge Regime in 1979 all but 40 of Cambodia’s doctors had either perished or fled the country. Cambodia still lacks advanced medical schools, highly skilled professors, unified medical curricula and basic medical texts. As a result, most Khmer medical workers do not receive adequate classroom and clinical training. The Medical Education Center represents a crucial step towards improving the dire health conditions in one of the world’s poorest nations. Please break the cycle of poor nutrition, poor sanitation and poor medical care by contributing to our education programs! |
