Health
Center Work
CBHEP works with Siem Reap health centers to improve
the quality and capacity of the health care they provide. With each health
center the following forms of training are conducted:
Nurse Training: Targeting Health Center nurses
specifically, CBHEP nurse training identifies training
needs, develops problem solving, and encourages effective practice such
as regular operating hours.
Health Center Training(HCT): HCT is an intensive
training program provided by AHC. The program covers
nursing, essential drugs, and health promotion. Training also includes
practical experience in patient consultation, minor surgery and emergency
care and is supported by lectures on child health, disease symptoms and
treatment.
Management Training: Sakhem, the CBHEP
project manager also provided health center management training. He provides
training in leadership skills, problem solving, finances, job descriptions
and contracts.
Outreach Work: According to national guidelines,
each health center should provide outreach services to the community it
serves at least once a month. CBHEP nurses work with
health center staff to develop this work which includes; health promotion,
immunization, growth monitoring, vitamin supplementation, deworming, birth
spacing, symptomatic malaria treatment, patient referral and follow up
of TB and leprosy patients.
Additional Clinics: AHC also
provides supplementary clinics, such as dental services at the health
centers on a regular basis.
Physical Infrastructure: In order to provide quality
services the health centers require an adequate physical environment.
CBHEP helps to improve water systems, provide and install
necessary tools (scales, demonstration gardens) and improve communication
between health centers and the Provincial Health Department (to in turn
improve funding and equipment).
